The India Gate (originally called the All India War Memorial) is a majestic war memorial located astride the Rajpath (now Kartavya Path) on the eastern edge of the ceremonial axis of New Delhi, India. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, it stands as a solemn tribute to the 84,000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who lost their lives during the First World War and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The triumphal arch stands 42 meters high, and its walls are inscribed with the names of thousands of soldiers. Beneath the arch lies the Amar Jawan Jyoti (Flame of the Immortal Soldier), which has burned since 1971. Today, the surrounding lush lawns are a popular gathering spot for both locals and travelers, especially when illuminated at night.
